 Job Title: Community Outreach Specialist at Pima Animal Care Center

Schedule: Monday – Friday and occasional Saturdays for events

Type: Part-Time, 30 hours a week, $15 per hour

FLSA Status: Grant-funded position not guaranteed beyond June 30, 2023

SUMMARY:  This position will lead a team of volunteers to engage the community through Keeping Families Together outreach opportunities, provide supplies to pet owners who need assistance to keep their pets, and facilitate other forms of community engagement. They will track data to demonstrate the efficacy of the program and will maintain and monitor supplies to be provided to the community. 

Functions

  • Oversee and lead team of volunteers who independently attend Community Outreach events on behalf of PACC and Friends of PACC. Ensure that volunteers are aware of and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.

  • Assist team with recruiting and training new volunteers for outreach.

  • Coordinate Outreach events and attend events as needed to ensure smooth operations. Includes communicating with partner organizations, making arrangements to transport supplies to events and coordinating PACC vehicle use, and communicating with pet owners served by the program who need additional support for their pets

  • Serve as PACC point-of-contact in target communities. Maintain a non-judgmental relationship with the community and establish PACC as a resource center.

  • Maintain inventory of supplies for outreach programs as assigned. Track number of items given to the public, organize storage of supplies, coordinate with HASS Director and Friends of PACC to solicit donations, and coordinate with supervisor to order supplies as needed.

  • Implement and maintain accurate data collection practices to track impact of outreach programs. Maintain thorough data recording number of people and pets assisted, items distributed, appointments made, and other relevant information. Create monthly reports to share with PACC leadership.

  • Collect compelling photos and stories that illustrate the impact of PACC’s outreach efforts. Take photos and gather stories designed to promote programs to the community to share with the Friends of PACC team and HASS Director.

  • Work with coordinators and supervisors in other functional areas to fulfill program needs.

  • Assist with other outreach events and initiatives as needed.

Qualifications/Expectations:

  • Must demonstrate strong desire to promote pet ownership within the community and to preserve the owner/pet connection whenever possible.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Able to work independently and efficiently as well as with the public, staff, and volunteers.

  • Able to communicate effectively with the public, volunteers, and staff.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

  • Must be friendly, non-judgmental, and measured even in difficult situations.

  • Comfortable interacting with dogs and cats, many of whom may be undersocialized and/or large.

  • Basic knowledge of animal behavior and pet wellness or the ability to easily learn about these topics.

  • Knowledge of issues facing high poverty and minority communities.

  • Computer literate and quick to pick up new programs.

  • High-level ability to multi-task, organize, and keep detailed records efficiently and accurately.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable mode of transportation, and good driving record.

  • Exhibit flexibility and professionalism.

  • Animal welfare experience not required.

  • Warehouse experience a plus.

  • Knowledge using Excel to maintain spreadsheet reports.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to high noise levels and odors.

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift & move up to 50 lbs. occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance.

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
