Petco Foundation Funds—MATCHED!

YOU DID IT!

Thanks to every person that donated, shared our stories on social media, and forwarded our emails, we met and surpassed the $25,000 mark for the Petco Foundation matching grant!

“The people of Pima County care deeply for pets and their people as their support proves again and again. Thank you to our neighbors who answered the call to match a generous $25,000 donation from the Petco Foundation. These funds will bolster our community and its pets,” says Tammi Barrick, Board Chair for Friends of Pima Animal Care Center.

When we applied for the Petco Foundation matching grant it was with a vision of transformation. Throughout the incredible struggles brought on by COVID-19 we caught a glimpse of a potential future for animal sheltering, and that future was surprisingly bright. In the first few weeks of reaching out to our community for fosters, adopters, and donations of critical supplies, the response was truly overwhelming. Where once there were close to 800 pets housed in kennels at Pima Animal Care Center, there are now close to 200 in the shelter and over 600 in foster homes. And this is while still taking in between 30-55 emergency cases per day.

“It’s hard to express what this matching grant from Petco Foundation means to us. These funds will be used to save the lives of medically vulnerable pets, provide help for pet owners struggling from the impacts of COVID-19, and build our volunteer and foster programs. Thank you Petco Foundation for giving us this critical support and thanks to our community for donating $25,000 that Petco matched!” says Kristen Hassen, Director of Animal Services at Pima Animal Care Center.

Friends of PACC exists to ensure that the shelter has everything it needs to go above and beyond basic care. With your help, how we care for homeless pets in our community can be completely transformed. Imagine most pets living in the comfort and care of real homes while they’re waiting to find their forever placement. Imagine the shelter as a resource for owners and their pets that works to keep families together. This matching grant and our community’s support are an important step on this journey toward PACC’s next evolution.

Thank you for loving the pets and people in our community!
