PACC Top 10 Saves of 2017, #4 Sooey Can Breathe Easy Now
We getting close to the end of our countdown of the top 10 PACC saves in 2017. You have just a few days remaining in this calendar year to make a contribution to Friends of PACC to support our efforts of enhancing the lives of pets in need. Today we share with you the story of Sooey, our #4 Save of 2017. As we ring in the New Year, let’s celebrate these successes!
Sooey
In September we first met Sooey, an 8-week-old French bulldog mix. She had a severe cleft palate—on both soft and hard palates—that made eating so difficult she weighed a mere three pounds at the time.
Even with the cleft palate, however, some quality time with her foster mom (a PACC staff member) helped her gain some weight.
But Sooey still had a long road ahead of her. She was having great difficulty breathing, eating, and drinking. If she drank water too fast, it would come back out of her nose, which can cause aspiration pneumonia.
There was one solution: surgery (perhaps more than one) to repair the cleft and possibly remove some teeth to make more room in her mouth.
In late November, Sooey underwent a successful surgery, her cleft palate completely fixed.
Now Sooey can eat and drink comfortably, focusing her attention on more important matters—playing and cuddling with her housemates, who include two cats, a small Pomeranian, and a large goofy heeler mix.
Soon Sooey will go to a permanent home, once she’s completely recovered from surgery so she can be spayed safely.
But for now, her foster mom says, “She is as happy as can be, not even realizing she had a major surgery done.”
